Today I'm 30

Today is my 30th birthday. So far it is a good day (and my day off from work!). :) I got a very nice and meaningful gift from my sweetie and I got my pictures of New York and Haute Savoie back from the lab.

Greg got me the famous cook book, Mastering the Art of French Cooking by Julia Child. It's such an awesome gift! Last September in Chicago, we found an original version in a second hand book shop. I concidered buying it but didn't. I regret it. Once back I showed Greg the Meryl Streep movie, Julie and Julia, with Amy Adams. He didn't like it much but I love this movie. Anything about cooking or wine I love.
Last year for my birthday he hid my present in the apartment, so he did the same this year. Actually the books were right under my nose, still in their Amazon cardboard box, right by my sewing machine. We have so many boxes there that I just didn't pay attention.
For the first time in my life I got tears in my eyes when opening a gift. Usually the only feeling I have when opening a gift is embarassment. All I can think about while ripping the paper is 'You have to act happy about it not matter what it is'. I guess it was such a relief and such a great idea as a gift for me, that I just let my guard down and shed a few tears.
I can't wait to try a few of these recipes! I have to get my measuring cups back from my place first. Isn't it weird that I'm a french girl living in France and following the recipes of an American in a book called Mastering the Art of French Cooking? I think that's funny. :) And I'm not afraid to bone a duck!

The neighbor's window. I love it.

As I said I got my pictures back today. I gave a bunch of rolls to get develloped and in the lot there was this roll. I started it a loooong time ago. Most of the pictures were of Hopi, my cat. He loves to pose. But one of the picture was pretty old.

There was a picture of Bebop, my previous cat, who died in September 2012. (Sorry about the fingerprints, I scanned the pictures in a hurry) I don't really know how I feel about it. I'm just glad I have this amazing little creature that is Hopi in my life now so I don't think that much about Bebop.

That's it for today June 19. We'll be ordering sushi shortly (yeah, we got to celebrate! I'm having wine right now) and I have to get my posts ready for the rest of the New York pictures!
Have a great week end because it's right around the bend! ;)

My Favorite Moment of the Week - Pure Bliss

My favorite day of the week is the day I wash my hair. :) The part I like best is actually blow drying my hair.
I guess it sounds silly and completely random as a blog post but what a blissful moment, all warm and comfy! I finally can take the time to read in this flow of hot air and Earl Grey tea vapors.

Cup: Paperchase

My hair dryer must be the oldest thing I own!  I had it when I took my 'BAC', highschool diploma in France. I used to turn it on, place it between my knees as I was sitting on the floor and I would study for the exams this way. I guess the sound of it helps me focus and soothes me.

Right now I'm reading Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert and it's such a nice book! I wasn't expecting I would like it that much! Actually I wasn't expecting I would like it at all! But I do, it's very inspiring and uplifting. It's a feel-good book and I love those!

Last week I went shopping, and bought this delicious tea! I'm an Earl Grey freak!! Here's another thing that really soothes me! Just the scent when I open the box, it feels just like home.
This particular brand is particularly good! It's made of green tea though, I usually like black better but this one rocks anyways!

Writing this post I realize that I'm really struggling with my English. I'm lost for words, I have to think about what I want to say and how to say it. It wasn't like that only a few months ago. I used to think in English just like I do in French, my mother tongue, and that was it!
I guess and hope this blog is good exercise.

Day 5 - Portrait and Reflex Camera

Today I actually didn't do a whole drawing, bad me! I've been really busy shopping....  Yep, bad me again...
I bought a camera... Knowing that I bought one last week makes me even naughtier!!! Well, this time it's a reflex!
It was second hand and it was a steal!(250€) I couldn't resist. Especially after I took this first picture in the store to check it out, I was in love! I had to have it! I've been wanting to have a reflex for so looong!
It's a Canon Rebel T1i. :)

I have seen so many great pictures taken by this camera on Flickr! It's 5 years old but it's pretty awesome!

Here is the one I bought last week :) It's nice to have the option to bring along a tiny camera. It's also a Canon. I love this brand!!! My first digital camera was a Canon, one of the first Ixus, and I used to take pictures during concerts with it and they were pretty neat for such a small camera!

Me after my purchase, all happy on the streets of Paris :)

And for now, the drawing of the day, and I have to be honest, it kind of sucks... :p
And if I wanna be even more honest, I actually only did the outline today...The whole drawing was actually done yesterday. When I say I'm bad! But hey! I didn't have the time today! Shopping is a full time job :)

During my shopping spree, I found a bunch of books (3 by Chrichton, I love him, he's genius! One by Hawthorne, I was looking for this one, and my boyfriend got me one as well :) The wind-up bird chronicle by Murakami; I LOVE when he buys me books!! We got a few movies as well.
I also got a load of pens... and yarn, exciting, uh?

Let's stop for today with this picture of 'bouche rose' (pink mouth as I call him), the cutest of the cute.

Day 3 and 4 - Drawings Mermaid and Twin Girls

Ok, si I decided that March was going to be a drawing a day!

Here is my drawing for March 3

And here's my drawing for today :)
I'm reading this book right now, The White Forest By Adam McOmber, and at point he's talking about this hidden portrait of a Lady with black flowers in her hair... Got me inspired for today's drawing(s).
I should do a post on the books I'm reading as well :) That would be nice to keep track of this as well :p

IT actually looked more promising without the coloring that it turned out to be :/ I don't really like the result with the colors.

That's it for today!
I decided I would do a different 'event' each month. I already have an idea for april and I can't wait!!!
For now, let's stick with a drawing a day :) I need to fill up this sketch book of mine :p
